4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour

Experience Uganda’s Mountain Gorillas the Fast and Comfortable Way

Embark on an unforgettable wildlife journey with Renai Venture Safaris through our 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour. This unique safari package is carefully designed to provide a seamless and efficient way to witness the endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park without the long, tiresome road trips. Traditionally, traveling from Entebbe to Bwindi involves over 7 hours of driving across a combination of surfaced and unpaved roads. With our fly-in option, this time is drastically reduced to just about one hour, allowing you more time to relax, explore, and connect with Uganda’s most iconic primates.

This 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour features two incredible gorilla trekking experiences, inclusive of return domestic flights between Entebbe and Bwindi, airport transfers, accommodation, and gorilla permits. Flexibility is key—we can customize your itinerary to include one-way flights and road transfers as per your preference. Flights are pre-booked and available daily (subject to gorilla permit availability). Whether you choose to fly both ways or drive one way, comfort and time-efficiency are guaranteed. We also offer options to upgrade your accommodation based on your preferences at the time of booking.

Detailed 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour

Day 1: Begin Your Fly-in Gorilla Safari – Flight from Entebbe to Bwindi

Flight from Entebbe to Bwindi

Your exciting gorilla trekking adventure kicks off at Entebbe International Airport. Depending on the time of your flight—either 07:00 AM, 10:15 AM, or 12:00 PM—we recommend arriving the night before in Entebbe to avoid any travel stress. Most hotels near Entebbe Airport provide complimentary shuttle services. If needed, we’re happy to arrange your transfer to the airport.

Our team will ensure you receive your e-tickets and gorilla permits either electronically or directly at the park office in Bwindi. Upon arrival at the airport, check-in procedures will require your passport, and you’ll be welcomed by Aerolink’s professional staff who will assist you onto your domestic flight to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip.

This short scenic flight lasts approximately one hour and operates at a lower altitude, offering breathtaking aerial views of Uganda’s diverse landscapes—including remote villages, lush rivers, rolling hills, and dense forests. Upon landing at the airstrip, our 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour local representative will greet you and transfer you to your selected lodge in Bwindi, a drive that typically takes around one hour through stunning countryside.

Depending on your arrival time, optional guided community activities can be arranged. You may explore the Batwa Pygmy communities or enjoy a guided walk in Bwindi’s enchanting forest. These walks provide a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the cultural and ecological richness of the region.

Suggested Lodges in Bwindi:

  • Up-market: Mahogany Springs Lodge, Buhoma Lodge, Four Gorillas Lodge, Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge
  • Moderate: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, Lake Mulehe Gorilla Lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort
  • Budget: Gorilla Haven Lodge (Rushaga), Gorilla Conservation Camp

Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi

First Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi

On the second day of your 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour, the real adventure begins. After an early breakfast, your driver will escort you to the Bwindi National Park office for a pre-trek briefing session, usually starting around 7:00 AM. During the briefing, experienced rangers will provide detailed information on gorilla behavior, conservation efforts, and tracking protocols. You may also be treated to a local cultural performance by community members, enhancing your understanding of the region’s heritage.

After the briefing, you’ll be assigned to a small group (maximum of eight participants) to visit a specific gorilla family. Each group is led by expert trackers and 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour ranger guides. We highly recommend hiring a local porter (available at an affordable fee) to carry your gear and support you during the trek, as the trails can be physically demanding.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi entails navigating through dense tropical rainforest, where new paths are often carved with machetes. The duration of the trek varies based on the location of the gorilla family and can range from 2 to 4 hours each way. Along the trail, your guides will share fascinating insights into the park’s ecosystem and its rich biodiversity.

Encountering with the Mountain Gorillas

Upon encountering the gorillas, you’ll spend one magical hour observing their behaviors, interactions, and sheer presence. These habituated families are familiar with human observers and provide unparalleled photographic and emotional experiences. Your 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour guides will help you capture perfect shots and ensure you have a respectful and safe encounter.

After your trek, you will descend back through the forest to a designated picnic area for your packed lunch. The afternoon is free for relaxation at your lodge or you may choose to participate in another optional community walk or forest exploration.

Suggested Lodges in Bwindi:

  • Up-market: Mahogany Springs Lodge, Buhoma Lodge, Four Gorillas Lodge, Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge
  • Moderate: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, Lake Mulehe Gorilla Lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort
  • Budget: Gorilla Haven Lodge (Rushaga), Gorilla Conservation Camp

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, and Dinner

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Bwindi

Second Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Bwindi

Today marks another awe-inspiring day in the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. After breakfast, you’ll embark on your second gorilla trekking experience. While some may question the need for a second trek, seasoned travelers and wildlife enthusiasts often find it profoundly enriching. Each gorilla family exhibits unique social dynamics, group sizes, and personalities, offering new perspectives with every encounter.

During the second trek, you’ll be assigned a different gorilla family from the previous day. This ensures you witness a broader spectrum of gorilla behaviors and possibly more favorable viewing conditions, especially if weather disrupted your previous experience. Given Bwindi’s rainforest climate, unpredictable rainfall is common, making a second trek a worthwhile addition to your 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour itinerary.

The trekking process follows a similar structure to Day 2—starting with a briefing, followed by the trek with skilled rangers and trackers. Your 4-Day Fly-in Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour guides will once again help you navigate the trails, share ecological knowledge, and provide exceptional support throughout the journey. When you reach the gorilla group, take your time to observe, photograph, and enjoy the hour-long encounter.

After completing your trek, you’ll return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest. This extra day also provides a buffer in case any changes or delays affect your first trek. In the evening, you may unwind at the lodge, share stories around the fireplace, or enjoy a sundowner with the soothing sounds of the forest around you.

Suggested Lodges in Bwindi:

  • Up-market: Mahogany Springs Lodge, Buhoma Lodge, Four Gorillas Lodge, Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge
  • Moderate: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, Lake Mulehe Gorilla Lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort
  • Budget: Gorilla Haven Lodge (Rushaga), Gorilla Conservation Camp

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, and Dinner
