4 Days Lake Nakuru & Masai Mara Safari from Mombasa
September 14, 2026
4 Days Rwanda & Uganda Gorilla Safari
September 14, 20264 Days Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration Safari
For travelers with limited time but a firm goal — witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara — this four-day safari strips away the extras and puts you in the reserve for the events that matter most: river crossings, predator activity, and, if your dates line up, a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the herds.
More than two million wildebeests and hundreds of thousands of zebras make this annual trek between the Serengeti and the Mara ecosystem in search of water and fresh grazing. It is often called the Eighth Wonder of the World, and for good reason: nowhere else can you watch this scale of movement, and the predators that follow it, from the seat of an open safari vehicle.
This itinerary is best suited to travelers visiting specifically for the migration season (roughly July to October) who want two full days dedicated to following the herds, rather than splitting time across multiple parks. It works equally well for photographers chasing river-crossing shots and for first-time safari-goers who want the migration experience without extending their trip beyond four days.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and Transfer to Masai Mara
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our representative will meet you, brief you on the days ahead, and take you to your private safari vehicle for the transfer to the Masai Mara National Reserve. It is a journey of approximately five hours, with a stop at the Rift Valley View Point for views over an escarpment said to be visible even from space.
You will arrive at your lodge in the afternoon. Check in, enjoy lunch, then head out for your first game drive across the Mara’s savannah plains — watch for lion prides, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and gazelles. As the sun sets, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Accommodation: Mara Serena Safari Lodge
Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
Days 2 & 3: Follow the Great Wildebeest Migration
Spend two full days exploring the Masai Mara and following the Great Wildebeest Migration, combining game drives with an optional hot air balloon safari.
Each morning, wake early for breakfast and head out with a packed lunch for a full day of game viewing. Watch the sunrise cast its colors across the savannah as you follow the migrating herds and the predators trailing behind them — lions, cheetahs, leopards, cape buffaloes, elephants, gazelles, and a rich variety of bird species.
Your guide will position the vehicle at vantage points along the Mara River, where you may witness a crossing: wildebeests and zebras plunging into the current, navigating the pull of the water and the crocodiles lying in wait. It is one of the natural world’s genuinely unforgettable sights.
On the second morning, an early 4 a.m. start takes you to a hot air balloon safari. After a briefing on safety and procedure, you will watch the balloons inflate before climbing into the basket for a sunrise flight over the plains — a bird’s-eye view of the migrating herds below, and a favorite experience for photographers. After roughly an hour aloft, you will land to a Champagne breakfast in the bush before continuing with a full day of game driving.
