Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Drive Time: Approximately 2 hours
You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha after breakfast, or from Kilimanjaro International Airport on arrival. After a safari briefing, drive to Tarangire National Park.
Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s most striking parks, its landscape dotted with giant baobab trees, bush savannah, and seasonal marshes, and home to some of the country’s largest elephant herds. From the open roof of your safari vehicle, take in the landscape and watch the animals below. In the afternoon, leave the park and drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Spend a full day on game drives exploring Tarangire National Park.
During the dry season, animals congregate along the Tarangire River to drink, making it an excellent spot to observe their behavior up close. With a full day in the park, you have time to explore its more remote corners, taking in both the big moments — lions, giraffes — and the small ones, from dung beetles to everything in between.
Your guide will share detailed knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystem along the way; you may be surprised how much you take in by only your second day of safari. At sunset, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, journey toward the southern Serengeti, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s most popular safari destination, known for its range of habitats and landscapes — short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps, and lakes. The park is famous for the annual migration, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra trek in search of fresh grass and water.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park
Spend the entire day exploring Serengeti National Park; the specific areas you visit will depend on where the migrating herds are at the time. Predators typically follow closely behind, including lions, leopards resting in acacia trees, and cheetahs.
During the short rains in November and December, the herds move from the northern hills to the southern plains; during the longer rains from April to June, they return north. Because the migration follows the rainfall each year, herd locations can shift from season to season, but your guide will know where to find them.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Your safari continues to Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, leave the Serengeti with an en-route game drive, heading toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the early afternoon. As you reach the crater rim, the giant caldera comes into view below you — a sight most visitors say photographs never quite capture. You will also take a walk through a coffee plantation in the highlands to learn about coffee cultivation and processing.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, return to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater. This collapsed volcano is home to more than 25,000 mammals, including the Big Five — lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard — along with spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs, and some of the more than 500 recorded bird species in the area.
After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch, leave the caldera in the afternoon and return to Karatu for dinner and a further overnight stay.
